In the world of mortgages, there are a lot of different definitions. Interest rates, and terms are two of the most common ones. A term mortgage, is a mortgage that has a certain life span. That means that the borrower and lender agree upon a specific period of time for repayment. The length of the terms will decide how much monthly payments will be. The shorter the term, the higher the payments will be. The longer the term, the smaller the payments will be. The amount of interest you pay over all will be determined by the term of the mortgage.
Understanding What Is A Term Mortgage.
Basically there is only one way to go about borrowing for a mortgage. You will be given an interest rate, and specific amount of months to repay the amount that you borrow. Depending upon your interest rate, the amount you pay past the principal will be different. If you have on interest rate, the total amount you repay will different between short and long term mortgages. With a short terms mortgage you will pay less interest because you allowing less time for the debt to accrue interest.
How The Term Affects The Total Amount You Pay
Again, interest and term length affect how much you will pay. If you can afford a larger monthly payment, you may want to take that option. You will build up equity faster and pay less interest in the long run. A long term loan may still be the best option if you can only afford smaller payments. It is a personal decision, and the total amount you repay for your mortgage will depend upon what you can afford to pay. Make sure you get terms that you are comfortable repaying.
