When purchasing a home one of the biggest decisions to make is choosing a mortgage company. Because of their advertisements, many people choose large national mortgage companies over local mortgage companies. This may be a mistake as there are many reasons to work with a local mortgage company if you are buying a home.
Market Knowledge
The first reason why you should work with a local mortgage company if you buy a home is because of their market knowledge. More so than national lenders, local mortgage companies are well aware of local real estate trends. They can also give insight into local grants that are offered to local homebuyers.
Customer Service
Another reason why you should work with a local mortgage company if you buy a home is because of the extra customer service they provide. A local mortgage company will often be able to meet with you in person and they will have the time to discuss what you can afford and what loan programs you qualify for. If you choose a national mortgage company, all of your business will be discussed over the phone and you may not be offered the mortgage option which suits you best.
Service Discounts
When purchasing a home, there are many services which need to be paid. These services, which are provided by law firms, appraisal firms, and home inspection companies, can really add up and cost a lot of money. Many local mortgage companies will work side by side with these companies in an effort to build up business through referrals. Often times if your mortgage lender refers you to one of these companies, you can receive sizable discounts.
