If I Am A Veteran, Is A Va Mortgage My Best Bet?

By Bob Redtree

Some of the most important things to think about when considering a VA mortgage

For those folks who have served some time in the military, you probably already know about the nice incentives that you have when you get out. One of those is being able to work with the VA when getting mortgages. You might be wondering, if I am a veteran, is a VA mortgage my best bet? For some people, the answer to this question is decidedly yes. It shouldn’t be yes across the board, though. Some folks who have a chance to get a VA mortgage might be better suited with another option, so you need to look at things on an individual basis.

If I am a veteran, is a VA mortgage my best bet?

The nice thing about the VA mortgage is that it’s much easier to qualify for than a typical mortgage with a typical lender. You don’t need to be some sort of credit superstar to get one of these loans, which makes it good for people who have struggled a bit with their credit. The restrictions and costs on these loans are somewhat high, so that is something to keep in mind when you are looking at all of your options. If you’re struggling with your credit situation, then a VA mortgage is by all means a solid bet.

Exploring your options

When looking for the answer to whether a VA mortgage is my best bet, you need to recognize all of the options out there. This means taking the time to consider whether or not you can get a better rate and more competitive terms from some of the private lenders. In many instances, these companies will be able to help you with more competitive loans, so you won’t need to use your VA status to qualify.
