Since FHA loans are designed to help lower income families purchase a new or first home, Does FHA have the lowest mortgage interest rates?

Many people today are considering purchasing their first home. Often times due to limited income opportunities their search is limited to homes that will qualify for an FHA loan. So, does FHA have the lowest mortgage interest rates?

Does FHA have the lowest mortgage interest rates?

Before going any further in this discussion you should know that according to FHA Loan Pros (the unofficial guide to FHA loans and mortgages), FHA does not set interest rates. As a matter of fact, FHA does not make mortgage loans. They simply purchase loans from lenders that qualify by FHA standards.

If FHA does not make loans how does it work?

To qualify as an FHA lender, a lender must offer a low interest rate to its borrowers. Along with that the down payment requirement is a very low 3%.

Does FHA assist with closing costs?

Yes by allowing the closing costs to be included into the monthly payments and spread out over the life of the loan. Also, the fees that are a part of every mortgage are held to a specific range as a means of keeping the cost to the consumer within their means.

Does FHA have the lowest mortgage interest rates?

FHA continues to have competitive mortgage interest rates in an effort to help the borrower achieve their dreams of a home of their own. While this does not mean that FHA necessarily has the lowest mortgage interest rates it does mean that they are at the bottom end of the interest rate ladder. With low interest rates coupled with holding the costs involved with getting the loan down it does, however, make an FHA loan more affordable than some others.
