Did The State Of The Union Make Way For Mortgage Relief?
By Ann WhiteWith President Obama making the annual State of the Union speech last week, some people now wonder whether or not that speech will set the tone for mortgage relief in the not so distant future. All across Capitol Hill and around the country, the question being asked is, “Did the State of the Union make way for mortgage relief?” The answer to that questions depends upon who you talk to, but many people think that mortgage relief is most certainly coming in the next few months. It is apparent that there are still some major problems facing the US economy and it appears that the president has the political clout to do something about it.
Did the State of the Union make way for mortgage relief right away?
As with most things in the political world, it’s unlikely that we are going to see any immediate impact as a result of the speech. That would be the best possible scenario, but nothing happens overnight when there are so many hoops to jump through. Starting in February, congress should start to look at ways to push through more mortgage relief spending. This will come at the behest of the president, so it will likely be fast tracked a little bit more than the typical bill.
The importance of government relief
There is no question that the Obama administration understands very clearly the importance of protecting people’s homes. This has been the case since he started his campaign, but over 2009, people were more concerned with other issues. The result has been a lag in the US economy and things are just now starting to turn around. Obama and company know that if we are going to completely pull out of the consumer based recession, it’s going to take some government spending to help out people with failing mortgages. The first step is realizing the importance of government action in that regard, and it appears that this first step has happened.
Did the State of the Union make way for mortgage relief later in the year?
The president clearly laid out his agenda during the speech and it appears that there will be a focus this year on the fixing bad mortgages. What we do know about the president is that when he lays something out so clearly for his yearly agenda, there is a concerted effort to make it happen at some point during the year. What this means is that it’s highly likely that mortgage relief is coming within a few months. It is on its way to help out people who are going to lose their homes. What form will it come in? No one is sure of that just yet, as it might be aimed at consumers individually or it might be aimed at the lenders to help balance out the situation from that side. Regardless, it’s a good bet that relief is on its way.
